Iain's paintings are constructed around strong and deeply embedded narratives, created with meticulous attention to detail using miniaturist principles and techniques. Every year Iain produces several contemporary miniature oil paintings, that are so small they can fit into the palm of your hand, and yet, when digitally enlarged, each could easily be construed to be a much larger piece. The application of these techniques to large canvasses causes viewers to be submerged in a sea of incredible detail, saturating the senses, confusing reality, and inspiring disbelief. Such works require countless hours of intense concentration and dedication, with each piece taking months or even years to complete. The paintings should be appreciated not only from a distance but also at extreme close range in order to absorb the intricate detail and complexity in the work.
