    Depp said that Rolling Stones guitarists Keith Richards, who also made cameos in the series At World's End, and Pepé Le Pew (from the animated series Looney Tunes) inspired him playing Jack Sparrow. Depp also says that he imagines pirates being "like the rock stars of their time"[2] and he prefers to play Sparrow "sexually ambiguous".[3]

    Depp's role as Jack in the first part of Pirates of the Caribbean earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. Pirates of the Caribbean writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio compare Jack's character to Bugs Bunny and Groucho Marx in the DVD commentary of the first film.

    Depp said that as long as the script was good, he would continue playing Sparrow even until, if anything, Pirates of the Caribbean 7, because he loved the role he played so much.
