Yes, it's a tourist trap. But it's also pretty incredible - the architecture, engineering, workmanship, collaboration across the sea - over 135 years ago - put that in perspective - is truly inspiring.
So many cultures, languages, and viewpoints converge on the boats to the island, and as you get closer you begin to feel the sheer mass of this 305' structure, and the impact it has had to so many seeking shelter on our shores...
