The Mask is a 1994 American superhero comedy film directed by Chuck Russell, produced by Bob Engelman, and written by Mike Werb, based on the comic Mask published by Dark Horse Comics. The film was released on July 29, 1994, by New Line Cinema, to a critical and commercial success. The film grossed over $351 million on a budget of $18–23 million, making it the second most profitable film based on the comics to date, behind Superman (1978).
