  • In 1890 Monet began to paint 4 canvases of poppy fields in Giverny. The last sale in the United States sold to William W. Kimball, Chicago, on Apr. 16, 1901, for $3,200, after which it was donated to The Art Institute of Chicago in 1922.

    The piece is signed "Claude Monet 91" toward the bottom right. The aspect ratio of the painting has been preserved to display the work in its entirety.
